Invitation to a discussion on benefits and costs of the policy of having a balanced budget, 26 September Europe House
In the framework of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, the European Commission Representation in the Netherlands in cooperation with the Embassy of Lithuania would like to invite you to a presentation and discussion on benefits and costs of the policy of having a balanced budget, as recession remains one of the most relevant questions in the current context of the EU
Ms. Ingrida Šimonytė, Deputy Chairperson of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania and former Lithuanian Minister of Finance (2009-2012), will elaborate on the Lithuanian experience in tackling the crisis and bringing the economy back to robust growth.
Dr. Lex Hoogduin, Professor at the University of Amsterdam, and a former member of the board of De Nederlandsche Bank, will relate the Lithuanian case with the current Dutch debate on budgetary cuts.
The discussion will be moderated by Mr. Mark Kranenburg (NRC Handelsblad).
